Pillar: Adaptation

1 min read

💡 Adaptation is about making decisions and adjustments based on new information about the course of the product development. Adaptation means taking action and usually requires a change of plans. Adaptation needs to be quick, as soon as new information is learned, or it loses its benefits. The goal of adaptation is to help the team stay on track to meet their goals.

How do we adapt during each Scrum Event? #

Sprint Planning #

The team creates Sprint Goal and Sprint Backlog based on their progress towards the Product Goal and their Product Backlog as well as feedback from stakeholders. This adaptation results in a plan for the Sprint that the team can start with.

Daily Scrum #

This is a daily adaptation of the team’s plan to meet the Sprint Goal. This results in adapting the Sprint Backlog with new tasks, removing tasks, or even potentially changing the Product Backlog items in the Sprint Backlog (requires keeping the Product Owner in the loop).

Sprint Review #

The team and stakeholders adapt the Product Backlog based on the information revealed during the meeting, including any impediments, progress towards the Product Goal, and feedback from stakeholders. This results essentially in adapting the plan to meet the Product Goal more effectively.

Sprint Retrospective #

The team adapts their ways of working to become more effective in how the interact with each other and people outside of the team, what processes and tools they use. They may also adapt the Definition of Done to improve the quality of the product going forward.
