Scrum Master’s Role in Scrum Events #
Sprint Planning #
- Remind everyone of the purpose of the meeting
- Keep tabs on time
- Keep the discussion on point and aligned with the agenda and purpose of the meeting
- Facilitate the discussion around crafting the Sprint Goal and make suggestions, especially if the team is struggling
- Provide any relevant data that the team may use to plan with more confidence
Daily Scrum #
The SM doesn’t have to attend the meeting but may attend to provide updates on what they worked on and any additional information relevant to the team at the end of the session.
Sprint Review #
- Remind everyone of the purpose of the meeting
- Keep tabs on time
- Keep the discussion on point and aligned with the agenda and purpose of the meeting
- Create a safe environment for the team to share their work with stakeholders and receive feedback (whether positive or negative)
Sprint Retrospective #
- If needed, facilitate the meeting
- Actively participate in the meeting, providing insights and improvement ideas
- Staying open to others’ ideas
- Volunteer to drive some action items the team decided to implement as a result of their discussion
