đź’ˇ The Product Owner is accountable for maximizing the product’s value delivered to customers.

What they do day-to-day #

  • Communicate with the Scrum Team on a daily basis
  • Document and communicate Product Backlog items clearly
  • Order the items in the Product Backlog to best achieve goals
  • Optimize the value of the work the Developers perform
  • Keep connected to the market, the customer, and the business in order to make sound decisions
  • Ensure that the Product Backlog is visible, transparent, and clear to all, and shows what the Scrum Team will work on next
  • Ensure the Developers understand items in the Product Backlog
  • Work closely with key stakeholders

Product Owner’s role in Scrum Events #

Sprint Planning #

  • Provide a clear Sprint Goal
  • Answer any questions developers may have about the items in the Product Backlog
  • Help the team decide what items to take from the Product Backlog into the Sprint Backlog
  • Reprioritize the work if needed

Daily Scrum #

The PO doesn’t have to attend the meeting but may attend to provide updates on what they worked on and any additional information relevant to the team at the end of the session.

Sprint Review #

  • Provide the overview of the work completed and the progress toward goals
  • Ask stakeholders questions to make sure what is being built is aligned with their expectations
  • Collect and document feedback
  • Reprioritize the Product Backlog if needed

Sprint Retrospective #

  • Actively participate in the meeting, providing insights and improvement ideas
  • Staying open to others’ ideas
  • Volunteer to drive some action items the team decided to implement as a result of their discussion
